Who would'a thunk I'd leave the curling sheets of Schenectady, New York, to screaming jets, huge ships that don't sink and drivers that think they're on the Long Island Expressway.??!! Well, now that I'm here, I LOVE IT!!!
Having been involved with radio and television since the early 80's, I left New York's' 'Capitol Region' in the summer of 2000, where I had produced several talk shows on NY's first radio station, WGY. (As well as several other jobs for the 4 other stations the company owned.) I had also worked for the New York State Commission on Cable Television as a television production assistant. A huge chunk of our job, as the states government access network, was to follow former Governor Mario Cuomo around, as well as televise anything his office was sponsoring. We were also the only camera's allowed in New York's highest court, The Court of Appeals, for oral arguments. There was never a session where history wasn't being made... it was awesome! (But, one word of advise to lawyers... if you ever get the chance to go before the 'high court' , wear something bright and make your case interesting. No one wants to see a sleeping judge... that's our tax money hard at work.)
I enjoy taking care of business behind the scenes at WNIS/WTAR. Talkradio has a way of pushing my buttons, so I try to get my 2 cents in when I can....and there's never enough news!! Having access to the latest news and all the sports scores from around the world, is definitely one of the perks.
Speaking of pushing buttons and sports, how 'bout the 2002 Winter Olympic games!!! Being a sports freak, I don't think I slept the whole 17 days. I love sports!!! All of 'em!!! Even the wacky ones...like Curling!! ! Did I mention I curl??? International Curling Information Network Group (ICING) Web site or www.usacurl.org Mark my words, the sport of Curling is on the UP and UP here in the US (Do F-18's drag race??? If so, I'd love to give it a shot!!)
I hope -- someday -- when I grow up -- I land a seat in the control room of a major sports TV network, or at least, a ticket taker for the Washington Cap's!!!
