WNIS & WTAR congratulate Marilyn Loding of Yorktown on winning the 2004 $100,000 Dream Home Makeover!The drawing was held on November 20th, 2004 at 11:30am at the Chesapeake Conference Center.
Like last year's event, the ten finalists stood behind their choice of a fruit basket.
When all ten finalists were in place, we had the finalists turn the bottom of their baskets to the audience.
The winning WNIS bumper sticker showed up underneath the basket chosen by Marilyn Loding of Yorktown.
Pasquale Giovani passed out many prizes during the three-hour event.

Hurricane Isabel
WNIS and WTAR received many emails from our dedicated listeners after our coverage of Hurricane Isabel. If you would like to send your comments, please email us here.
Here are some of the comments we received:
May God bless you at all WNIS/WTAR for your outstanding devotion to the Tidewater community during the crisis of Isabel. Immediately following the storm there was a news blackout. The TV stations thought they were doing their duty by broadcasting pictures of fallen trees and piers to all 40 people who were watching them. The other radio stations gave absolutley no pertinent information whatsoever regarding supplies, dangerous routes, or vital numbers to call for information. Through the call in telephone networking initiated by Tony Macrini and of course all the staff at your stations I was able to get vital supplies and take safe routes to check on the safety of my loved ones. On behalf of myself, my wife, and my 3 and 1/2 year old son I wish to express our deepest thanks and "love" for the dedication "ONLY" your stations showed during this crisis. I am a regular listener and I wish to support this station anyway I can...WNIS/WTAR will hold a special place in the memories of this crisis. I pledge full support to it's sponsors and wish I could thank every single staff member personally. I hope that the staff and stations receive full recognition for being the SOLE RELEVANT source of news and information for the community. You have become the precedent of what emergency broadcasting is in this area. You are not just a radio station....you are family!

As an avid listener of WTAR/WNIS, I want to thank everyone involved with the station who stayed for endless hours during the hurricane to keep us entertained and informed ... I am not a fan of Tony Macrini (he usually makes me crazy), but I was very glad to hear his voice in the storm for the many hours he stayed ... I felt as though I was not alone during these several days of darkness, heat, and night silences. So, again, my thanks for ALL the much appreciated information, laughs, and dedication of all involved who kept us informed up-to-minute with this information and keeping us laughing during this storm that seemed to hit us harder than we thought it would. It was nice to hear others calling in with information and letting us know we weren't the only ones with "woes."

As we all begin the clean up of Hurricane Isabel, I want to go on record as saying Tony & Company kept my family calm during a very scary time for them. His keen wit and stern vocal prescence I know kept us (and more than likely, thousands of Hampton Roads citizens) informed and laughing. I sincerely Thank You and all who contributed in helping us get through this time and for the continued support after Isabel left us. Thank You. Oh, I almost forgot, it's better to feed baby squirrels pecans and peanuts. That will fatten'em up for Squirrel Ala King.

Reader's Forum---Sandra Falcone of Norfolk called to say she really appreciated the work of radio guy Tony Macrini of WNIS during the long, dark days of Hurricane Isabel. "He was on the air for two and a half days, telling us what we needed to know. He was awesome."
Comment---Radio Stations, in general and WNIS in particular served the public well during the crisis. When the WNIS generator conked out, Macrini smoothly moved to WTAR and kept the information flowing. Tony Terrific.

Kudos to Radio Stations
The staff members of WNIS/WTAR deserve an award for the exceptional service they provided during Hurricane Isabel. With power down, the only source of news and important information I had was my battery-powered radio. Tony Macrini and his staff did an outstanding job of providing vital information and a forum for us to all call in and share information and frustration (like, how can one boil drinking water with no power on an electric stove?). Our local governments of the cities served by WNIS/WTAR should get together and present the staff of these radio stations a community service award. --Glenn H., Norfolk
