A phenomenon in the world of national radio, Dr. Laura occupies a unique niche wide enough to accommodate 18 million listeners. Dr. Laura's one-of-a-kind wit and wisdom swept the country in record time. Within four short years she was sharing the top rung of the ladder with none other than Rush Limbaugh and became the first woman to ever win a Marconi Award.

Dr. Laura has revolutionized syndicated talk radio, bypassing the tried and true topics of politics, sports and relationships, to establish a lively and provocative daily forum for the discussion of morals, ethics, and values in everyday behavior and circumstances. In so doing, she has also attracted the first-ever national talk show audience almost evenly divided between men and women.

For one thing, she is the prototypical baby boomer-the child of an American GI and an Italian war bride. Raised in New York, Laura Schlessinger absorbed its pace and pulse, as well as the brash confidence of people who live in "the greatest city on earth." She entered college at 17 and obtained her Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Physiology simultaneously from the Ivy League's Columbia University.

After moving to California in the mid-'70s, Laura taught at both USC and Pepperdine University, and earned her license as a Marriage and Family Counselor. In addition to Professor and Counselor, she also became a local radio personality. A trailblazer in the nascent trend of radio talk therapy, she was drawing record-breaking Southern California audiences to her late night show with her humor and remarkable insight. Over the years, her radio career has consistently surpassed expectations and become a national phenomenon in the world of talk radio.

Dr. Laura has the courage to consistently speak out, challenging the hardening feminist lines as anti-female and anti-family, earning in the process the militant feminists' undying enmity, which she wears as a badge of honor. She continues her emphasis on right and wrong and the importance of one's consistently striving to do the right thing reflects her own ongoing spiritual evolution from life-long atheist to Orthodox Jew within the last few years. As she shares her radio callers' struggles with their moral dilemmas and ethical quandaries, she calls on the traditional wisdom of the Ten Commandments as her reference point for guiding and educating them.
